Class Pet

Hi Chris

Just thought I would drop a line (before I forget!) about using Classpet with a child yesterday and using Read + Respond engage with my class during reading activities.

I used 2 of the maths activities with a Y4 boy who is a bright boy but quite disruptive at times. It is hard to get him motivated at times. Well, to my absolute amazement he was completely engrossed with the 2 day to day maths activities. He said (his words), they were cool. And what was the best thing for him, it wasn't so much the activities in of themself, but being able to create a sticker, say what he thought and have instant feedback! When asked if he wanted to use it more regularly, he very eagerly responded oh yeah! A success. So if it motivates someone like him then I can't wait to see how it will motivate others too!

I used Read + respond engage with my whole class to see how they would respond and get their opinion on what it was like. We used some of the activities from Bill's New Frock. The children loved it. They loved seeing aspects of the book on the big screen and were able to actively take part. Too soon to say how it will be and what effect if might have with their reading but based on 2 lessons worth, enthusiastic response! Only downside (from one of the children) was that they would like to see the book on the IWB.

Take care and looking forward to using both more!
